How’d We Get Here? We Love Wine.
We know that discerning wine lovers come from all backgrounds, and that everyone can appreciate life’s little pleasures. Want to share a great glass of wine with friends, even when there’s no particular holiday or occasion? So do we.
In pursuit of that (pretty reasonable!) goal, we started Nagging Doubt to create singular Okanagan wines of unquestionable quality. Specifically, we choose to make great wine that isn‘t out of reach for someone with a great palate and a modest budget.
There’s no reason to second guess your love of wine!
Rob Westbury
Winemaker & viticulturist
Some winemakers are born under a vine, raised in the business, know from the start that they’re destined to work in the industry. Not Rob.
Rob knew he’d grow up to be a rock star. And he was.
Because pursuing dreams is what we do here.
Armed with a degree in psychology from the University of Alberta, Rob spent many years touring Canada as the drummer in an acclaimed punk band, before trading his drumsticks and Doc Martens for a master’s degree from Northwestern University. After graduate school, he joined the rat race.
The corporate life was exciting and challenging and nonstop! But there was always something nagging at Rob–he longed to create something with his own hands. It was on a long-term business assignment in San Francisco that Rob fell in love with wine. Something clicked, and he realized that this was meant to be.
And so life took another convoluted turn. Rob turned his efforts to studying the artistry and science of winegrowing and winemaking. Many years of simultaneously apprenticing with innovative Okanagan winemakers, earning his Viticulture and Enology certificates from Washington State University, planting the Nagging Doubt estate vineyard from scratch, and learning the business of wine on the job have helped Rob earn his place among the industry’s hardest-working talents.
Abbey Westbury
Marketing & Other Stuff
Abbey’s childhood dream was to be Indiana Jones. So she worked on some archaeological digs and earned her degree in Radio-Television-Film and Italian from Northwestern University. Of course.
Professionally, she’s worked in film and TV post-production, all sorts of quirky museums, and as a content creator for the marketing and cultural heritage industries.
All of this training has come in very handy, as you can imagine, when she is up to her elbows in grapes.
Abbey juggles the Nagging Doubt marketing and content with running the tasting room, cleaning the tanks, and raking the grapes into the press. She’s technically the winery and vineyard assistant, and can also set up the farmers market tent in less than 3 minutes.
Clover & Pinto
Cellar Rat-Catchers
Clover and Pinto may be rescues, but we’re pretty sure they’re the saving graces of this place! Performing their duties with aplomb, they keep the property safe from mice, pose for social media photos, and welcome winery guests with tail wags and demands for attention. Sometimes, they go visit our lovely neighbours.
